Abandoned Casino Breakdown
ART DIRECTION
I loved playing The Last of Us and after completing the story I was so inspired to make a post-apocalypse setting. I wanted to pick an environment that everyone would recognize but never been done before. In 2016 I traveled to monte Carlo and visited the world Casino de Monte Carlo and was mesmerized by the grand environment. The room was filled with golds and dark reds, everything was so luxurious and well kept, I wondered what the environment would be like if it hadn't been touched for years. So this is what I set out to produce. I went for a Last of Us feel while leaning into more of a Bioshock style.
MODULAR ASSETS
I started out with actual references of Casino de Monte Carlo and sorted out my modular assets.
BLOCK OUT
I learned a lot about composition working on this environment. Throughout the project, the scene was lacking something and I couldn't pinpoint what it was. I later realized that it was my composition and everything in the scene looked too repetitive. I fixed this by making a large statue and placing it in the center of the room to grab the viewer's attention.
